2. Lombard Street
This east-west street is famous for a steep, one-block section with eight hairpin turns. Visit the portion on Russian Bill between Hyde and Leavenworth Streets to see the switchbacks that have coined this street the crookedest street in the world. The design was built to reduce the hill’s natural grade; too steep for most vehicles and pedestrians. Lombard Street has been featured in many movies and TV shows including Hitchcock’s “Vertigo,” “American Dad,” and “The Real World.”
